Ridge gourd (Luffa acutangula) is a cucurbitaceous vine that is commercially grown for its unripe fruits as a vegetable. Mature fruits are used as natural cleaning sponges. There is a wide variation in shape and length of fruits. Ridge gourd thrives very well in a warm and hot climate and can be grown in all kinds of soil but loam, clay loam and silt soil are best suited for its cultivation.
