Sweet corn (Zea mays convar. saccharata var. rugosa), also called sugar corn and pole corn, is a variety of maize grown for human consumption with a high sugar content. Sweet corn, commonly sold fresh, frozen, or canned as a vegetable, has wrinkled translucent seeds. It is a hot season crop and night and day temperatures should be higher for its deposition. It can successfully be grown in well-drained soils with pH of 5.5-7.0. However, it may be grown in all types of soil and is moderately salt-tolerant.
